According to reports discussions between Chicago/AEG (Chicago Fire) and Mexican international Cuauhtemoc Blanco have gone far enough that the two sides are juggling salary terms and length of contract, playing the money against the risk. Looks like the Fire would have to pay him a salary of between $1.5 million and $2 million per season, and offer him better terms than a one-year contract plus an option.
I think this is a good move for MLS - get another big time international player that will come relatively cheap. I am not sure Chicago is the best place for Blanco - I was thinking Houston or Chivas off the top of my head, but it's good that LA, Chicago and NY all got big time international players this offseason. Let's hope that this does in fact take place.
